So what’s happening in the world of bike racing???

Hi everyone,

Hope your week has been a good one.  There have been a lot of Cruisers with trailers on the road in the last few days.  Not sure if they were all heading home from somewhere, or whether they are on their way to somewhere else, but there have been plenty of them.

So what’s been happening in the world of two wheels & Racing ???

The big news this past weekend in World Superbikes isn’t the fact that a new winner emerged…sure Melandri won the round, but the confrontation between reigning world champion Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri during qualifying seems to be the biggest story.   Melandri’s reaction (….which was sarcastic applause) to Biaggi pulling across in front of him during qualifying, resulted in Biaggi heading to the Yamaha pit (with his Aprilia team and TV cameras) before he had words with Melandri – which included some finger-pointing and a couple of quick slaps across the side of the face.

Here’s the footage…..

Biaggi now regrets his behaviour saving it was “silly” and he shouldn’t have responded to Melandri’s provocation.  Biaggi has also slipped to 4th in the championship after round 2, and is 42 points behind leader Carlos Checa.

The other big news from the Donington round was Maxime Berger from the Supersonic Racing Team.   His Ducati lost its wheel when the rim failed and broke away from the hub……thankfully for Berger, he wasn’t going too fast at the time and was coming out of a low-speed corner.  Had this happened at max speed down the straight or heading into a faster corner, it could have been nasty.

Here’s the point where the wheel parts company from the swing-arm and Berger gets ready to go down…..

After round 1 of the MotoGP championship, Casey Stoner sits on 25 points in the lead ahead of Lorenzo, while Rossi sits in 7th.

This weekend the MotoGP circus heads to Jerez, Spain for round 2.

In other racing news….aussie Chad Reed has taken the lead of the AMA Supercross Championship.   This is a fantastic effort for the privateer Two Two Motorsports rider.  Although he didn’t win, his second place (and 11 other rounds of consistent finishes) has been enough to secure the lead.  After stating that the industry decided not to give him a chance this year, Reed is determined to go out and show them once again just how good he is!

And back here in Australia…….

Chris Mitskinis who I mentioned in my last post has reached Day 20 of his “44 Days” journey.   His is currently in Sydney, heading north through NSW.   I asked him yesterday when he would be heading through Grafton, which will be on Thursday.  It would have been cool to see him ride through town if I was there, but I’ll be in Maclean that day.

Today’s cool bike discovery is a Triumph Rocket III.  But it’s not just any Rocket, this is perhaps the kind of Triumph that Mad Max might ride.

So that’s it from me today, hope your week is good, get out there and enjoy the ride.

  1. Finally someone does a custom Rocket III right!

I am mildly hopeful this MotoGP season will entertaining. Last year I think I watched more than a few races on fast forward >>

    • I’m hoping the season will be a good one too, hopefully the rider/team changes will make it interesting.

You are right about that Rocket, I’ve never really been a big fan of them, but that one I like.
